Freemasonry in Berlin-Brandenburg
Masonic Lodge St. Johannisloge “Zum Widder” in Potsdam
Welcome to the website of the Masonic Lodge St. Johannisloge “Zum Widder” in Potsdam. As a more than 248 year old fraternity, we are one of the oldest Masonic lodges in the Berlin/Brandenburg area with over 68 brothers and an average age of under 51 years.
What exactly is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry is a certain way of life of an individual in relation to his fellow human beings. This attitude to life is characterized by ethical principles, honourableness, tolerance, charity and religiosity. The rituals of the Freemasons, their symbolic language and, above all, their basic spiritual attitude can essentially be traced back to the medieval cathedral lodges.
Origins of Freemasonry
The origins of Masonic ideas can be traced far back into antiquity. The beginnings of these ideas can be found from the Epic of Gilgamesh to the cultures of ancient Egypt, Plato in the Hellenistic world and the Middle Ages at the time of the Knights Templar.
Please do not hesitate to contact us personally at any time using the contact form.
We meet regularly for social events, lecture evenings and lodge trips as well as – and this forms the core of our community – for masonic work on the “rough stone”, as we Freemasons call it.
We would like to give brother Freemasons and interested guests an overview of Freemasonry in general and, of course, of our Potsdam St. John’s Lodge in particular.
Interested gentlemen and guests of our Masonic Lodge
Dear friends of our St. John’s Lodge and interested gentlemen and guests, once a month we offer an evening for seekers. The term seekers is the Masonic term for future brothers.
The guest evening of our lodge usually takes place in the lodge house of the Grand National – Mother Lodge “Zu den drei Weltkugeln” in Heerstrasse 28 in 14052 Berlin-Charlottenburg. Here every guest has the opportunity to listen to lectures on current and historical topics related to Freemasonry and to learn more about the ideas of our fraternity in personal discussions with Freemasons. Of course, every guest has the opportunity to ask questions about Freemasonry in general and our lodge in particular.
Our lodge belongs to the Grand Lodge of Freemasons of Germany (Freemasons’ Order), one of the five grand lodges in which German Freemasons are organized. We currently meet at our guest evenings in the lodge house of the Grand National – Mother Lodge “Zu den drei Weltkugeln” in Heerstrasse 28 in 14052 Berlin-Charlottenburg. The lodge house, the headquarters of the GLLFvD in Berlin, in Peter-Lenné-Straße 1-3 is currently being renovated.
